i.

'technicolor' isn't a real shade
so stop calling it your favorite
especially since these days
all i see are inbetweens

i've got this brand of blindness
that doesn't let me drown in the blue of your eyes
or taste the honey-coated golden of your skin

all i see is grey.

[and you never were beautiful in black and white.]

ii.

you like to talk in what-ifs and maybes
with oversaturated swirls of indifference
but you don't seem to get that it's those things i'm missing
with my eyes slowly falling into these patterns of grayscaled simplicity
my mind's searching for clearer answers in this scrabble board mystery
so as you stumble on eight letters that are begging to be heard

i'll let you have a few of mine:
'u' and 'i' are only vowels

[and they're definitely not in 'l - o - v - e'.]

and i'm not sure if i can decipher what you mean to me
when all i see are the same tired tones and none of the multichromatics.

iii.

you used to live in the space between clouds
where you would breathe liquid clarity in the shade of cerulean
and you had wings that were made of glass
so that's why it hurt so much to watch you fall
i've still got the shards beneath my closed lids
from watching your supernova explosion of glitterflakes
that burned too bright and left imprints that are dancing
in tints of charcoal and eggshell in the folds of my heart

[internal bleeding never amounts to much
since i only believe what i can see.]

so i don't believe that you're a prismatic daydream
that can save me.

[nothing can.]

iv.

and now i've been losing color for far too long
sinking into a darkness that doesn't glow
the way your sunset irises did as they gazed into mine
and on the edge of dreaming
i can imagine those whirlwind hurricanes of hues
brushing past you
staining you a more brilliant kind of beautiful

[but i can't see it.
i can't see you
since you were never this sort of grey.]

and here, iloveyous are sinking into blank canvases
as i try to memorize you in brushstrokes of white
you're fading like these sunstains on the back of my hands
and still i'm begging you to stay

[you always wanted things in black and white
not realizing we'd die that way.]

Author's Comments

i've always been more monochromatic
and i can't spin like this color wheel

____

achromatopsia
n. - color-blindness, where only white, grey and black are visible.

____

this is something i've been trying to write for a while but i've been having some sort of inspiration failure. i think it probably still needs some work but i like it for now.

i'll take this ink from my arms and write your name in the sky
please don't use my letters to start your fires this time

I simply love this... amazing. (Never thought of exasperating my poems like that either). I love your wording and description in this, (Plus poems based on medical conditions are cool, =D.)
